In line with our mandate, we have constantly optimized our efforts of making fish accessible and affordable throughout the country by setting up fish shops and conducting monthly regional fish promotions to ensure our footprints and activities representation in all parts of the country.
Currently, NFCPT owns and operates 18 fish shops in all 14 regions of Namibia and operates fish takeaways in Swakopmund and Ongwediva where we prepare and sell cooked fish.
Over the years, we have witnessed a significant improvement in fish consumption among Namibians from roughly 4kg per capita at independence to 16.59 per capita fish consumption at the end of March 2022.
Our distribution of frozen fish at an establishment in 2001 was a mere 500MT, this 10 000MT at end of March 2022. These achievements have been complemented by the Trust's commitment to ensuring investment in infrastructure development such as setting up fish distribution shops in the regions. In addition, the industry players as well as SMEs and individuals are involved in the redistribution process of fish locally.
Our main fish products are Horse Mackerel and Hake. Each year, the Government allocates a Horse Mackerel and Hake quota to the Trust. This quota is caught in Namibian waters annually - enabling the Trust to sell the fish to the public below the market value to ensure affordability.
Through established smart partnerships with industry partners in the fisheries sector, the Trust has been able to provide other fish and fish products such as silver Angel, reds dentex, jacopever, john dory, snoek, ribbon snoek, kabeljou, tilapia, Zambezi bream, and canned products such as pilchards, anchovies, and horse mackerel.
Our fish shops are in Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Windhoek (Wanaheda and Ombili), Mariental, Keetmanshoop, Lüderitz, Gobabis, Opuwo, Omuthiya, Ondangwa, Ongwediva, Outapi, Eenhana, Nkurenkuru, Rundu, Katima Mulilo and Otjiwarongo.
